The 24-pounder
(5.82-inch caliber) Coehorn mortar is more common than the 12-pounder (4.62-inch caliber)
size. In Abbot's book, Siege Artillery InThe Campaigns Against Richmond, he
stated the Federal forces should have employed the Confederate method of tong holes as
opposed to the clumsy system of strapping with tin. Click here
