The typical Tennessee Sabot projectile in this caliber is found with a wooden fuze plug
for a paper time fuze. This specimen was found near the battlefield of Kennesaw Mountain,
Georgia, which took place in 1864, and has a copper fuze plug. Attempts were made to
increase the chances of ignition of the paper time fuze by filing notches in the copper
sabot to allow the flame of the discharge to pass. This met with limited success. Note the
one flame groove cut out in the copper sabot in this projectile. Approximately one-forth
of the Tennessee Sabot projectiles that were fired exploded.
